Doing It With The Lights On!

OOOh, behave! I meant knitting of course!

Last night, myself, CarrieAnne, Becky,Bev and Andrea joined the knitters of Teeside to watch the film 'Notes On A Scandal', with the lights on so we could knit!! And what a lovely evening it was. The film was really good. I'd read the book a few years ago, but I couldn't remember much about the story. It was brill being able to knit, though the lights were a little dim. Luckily we'd all prepared for the occasion and had taken easy 'straight' knitting. I saved my sock knitting for the purpose! Just going round and round the foot didn't distract me much from the film.

The Arc in Stockton is a lovely modern building and after the film we retired to the cafe, where we nattered until we were asked to leave! Poor bloke wanted to go home!!

So I got a fair bit done on the sock. I'd left it as I said for the cinema, but I must admit the shawl is calling me more! I'm really enjoying the pattern. I've made a few mistakes, silly ones mostly, but not as many as I thought I'd make!!

The yarn is Ullcentrum, 100% wool. Its a bit rough, but I do like a bit of rough! I think it will be fine as an everyday type of shawl, which is what I wanted. I love the fine, cobwebby types too but I'd end up keeping it for 'best'! I'm at the 10th pattern repeat, so only another 5 to go! AND then the border of course, sigh....it may take longer than I thought!

I haven't done as much knitting this week as I've been making card samples. I seem to be taking longer and longer to make any card that looks half decent, and end up taking days and days to make just a few crappy cards. I don't know if having to make them within a time limit hampers my creativity, but I find I'm struggling a lot of the time.

Thank you for all your comments on my last post. I'm trying my best not to have ironing guilt! I saw a brill quote somewhere about housework. It said

The only place housework comes before knitting, is in the dictionary!

My new mantra!

Sounds like a perfect evening! The shawl really is stunning, I adore the colours.

Re: cardmaking. I've just started making cards for charity and have some similar problems. Because I know they are going to be for sale I'm so picky with them and critical. When I make cards for friends or family, I'm much more relaxed and hence happier with the results.

What a perfect evening, sounds like you all had fun
Your shawl look's stunning :) I have just got ten more repeats on mine to do & then I too will do the dreaded knitted border ,hofefully it will go smoothly. Although I read on someones blog that it took forever to do and she did a safety line !!!
I agree with Piglottie and have had similar experiences myself when I used to do craft fairs ; you just want it to be perfect, chill out , relax (ain't I the good one to talk LOL )
Love the mantra :)

Gorgeous shawl. The cinema knitting sounds great!

I know what you mean about the housework guilt thing. I had a similar discussion with another friend recently and she came back with 'no-one ever died wishing they'd done more dusting'! How true.

I hate HOUSEWORK! You make the beds, you do the dishes, wash, iron and dust -- and six months later you have to start all over again.

So pleased that you enjoyed the cinema. The Arc is a great place - I used to go Salsa dancing there! Love the shawl, hope the card making is not too traumatic. I think it's the stress of deadlines - they make me go blank!

My mum always says

"A clean house is the sign of a wasted life!" Hope that makes you feel better!

Lucky you lot - having a cinema to accommodate knitters. Brilliant!
I can't see the colours on your shawl - think my screen is too dark - but I'll take everyone's word for it. The pattern looks impressive.

Lovely colours on the shawl v nice - must wind my yarn up and start my shawl, wish I had a ball winder! Love the mantra I shal have to have it hung in the hall to warn everyone coming in the house!
Glad you had fun at the cinema!

I haven't done any knitting since I discovered stamping! I know what you mean about the cards, deadlines are so stressful - it's much nicer to make them for friends who appreciate them.

Ironing is for heat - setting Stewart Gill paints on T- shirts etc ... and NOTHING else!!! (I'll even heat set my Stewart Gill artwork in the tumble dryer if it will save getting the iron out).

Some lovely things to catch up with over here.

The bag is fab and so are the shawl and sock and how much more amazing are these things than clothes without creases :o?
